Archbishop Nicholas Chia was born on April 8, 1938, in Singapore. He was ordained a priest on Jan. 26, 1964, and episcopally ordained and installed Archbishop of Singapore on Oct. 7, 2001. He is presently the president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, and also president of the Regional Episcopal Commission on Mission. He is president of the Senate of Priests, and Chairman of the Finance Commission. He is president of both the Catholic Welfare Services (Singapore) and Roman Catholic Prison Ministry, and patron of the Catholic Lawyers Guild.
