The Archdiocese of Trivandrum (Latin rite) covers 686 square kilometers in total.


Malayalam, English and Tamil are the languages spoken in the diocesan territory.


It is half a millennium since Christianity had taken roots along the coastal area of Trivandrum, from Eraimmanthurai in the south to Ayroor on the north. Starting with foreigners, the mission is still an ongoing process in Trivandrum.

The diocese of Trivandrum was erected on July 1, 1937, from the diocese of Quilon.

On June 14, 1996, the diocese of Trivandrum lost territory to the newly erected diocese of Neyyattinkara.

It was on June 3, 2004, when the diocese was elevated to an archdiocese. Suffragan dioceses are the diocese of Alleppey, Neyyattinkara, Punalur and Quilon.


The weather and climate of Trivandrum is hot tropical. There is not much difference in the temperature of summer and winter months. Humidity rises to as high as 90 percent during the southwest monsoon. Trivandrum district gets rainfall from both the southwest monsoon and the northeast monsoon. The best time to visit Trivandrum is between November to March.


Trivandrum Latin archdiocese is headquartered in Kerala's capital city Thiruvananthapuram, formerly known as Trivandrum. It is bounded by the Arabian Sea on the west and the Western Ghat on the east. A long shoreline, with internationally renowned beaches, historic monuments, backwater stretches and a rich cultural heritage make this district a much sought after tourist destination.
