Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Romeo S. Saniel of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) as apostolic administrator of the Vicariate of Jolo in Sulu.

The priest, who is currently the president of Notre Dame of Jolo College, was named to the position about a month after former Jolo Bishop Angelito Lampon, OMI, was appointed as Cotabato archbishop.

Saniel will be installed as administrator of the Vicariate of Jolo on January 30. Raised to apostolic vicariate on July 12, 1958, it remains as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga.

Saniel is also a trustee of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
