The Church in Asia lost two cardinals in less than two months this year.

Cardinal Cornelius Sim, a new cardinal in Asia and the first of Brunei, died on May 29. He was 69.

Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, 89, former archbishop of Seoul and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, passed away on April 27.

Bishop Louis-Marie Ling Mangkhanekhoun was born on April 8, 1944, in Bonha-Louang. He was ordained priest on Nov. 5, 1972. Pope John Paul II appointed him on Oct. 30, 2000, as vicar apostolic of Paksé. His episcopal ordination was on April, 22, 2001.

On Dec 16, 2017, he was appointed vicar apostolic of Vientiane. On April 22, 2018, he was installed as cardinal-priest of San Silvestro in Capite.
