Pope Francis appointed Father Benny Mario Travas as bishop of Multan on May 29, 2015.
He was born in Karachi, Pakistan in 1966 and was ordained a priest in 1990. He holds a licentiate in canon law from Pontifical Urbanian University of Rome and has served in a number of pastoral and academic roles in the archdiocese of Karachi.
He has been the apostolic administrator of the diocese of Multan when appointed bishop.
He became the administrator of the diocese June 13, 2014 when Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Bishop Andrew Francis of Multan after attaining the canonical age of retirement.
The bishop also served as the rector of the St. Pius X Minor Seminary in Karachi and Vicar-General of Karachi archdiocese and vice president of the Catholic Board of Education.
He has also served as a professor of canon law at the National Catholic Institute of Theology in Karachi.
