Pope Francis appointed Bishop Valentinus Saeng to head Sanggau diocese on June 18, 2022.
Bishop Saeng was born on Oct 28, 1969, in Keramuk, Diocese of Sanggau. He attended St. Gabriel Passionist Minor Seminary in Sekadau and entered the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ (Passionists) in 1989. Bishop Saeng studied philosophy and theology at the inter-diocesan Major Seminary of Malang, Java. He professed his perpetual vows on Aug 22, 1996 and was ordained priest on Sept 26, 1998.
Bishop Saeng has held the following positions: Formator and vice-superior of postulants and novices (2001-2004). He was a teacher at the Widya Sasana High School in Malang from 2002 to 2004. Bishop Saeng was a member of the Passionist Formation Commission in Indonesia (2009-2011); Superior of the Passionist Student Center in Malang (2009-2013); and a translator of official documents for Passionists major superiors Since 2016, he has been director of the Passionist Spiritual Center in Malang.
Bishop Saeng is served as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Widya Mandala Catholic University of Surabaya and at the St. Thomas Catholic University of Medan.
Bishop Valentinus Saeng was ordained bishop on Nov. 11, 2022.
