The Church in Asia lost two cardinals in less than two months this year.

Cardinal Cornelius Sim, a new cardinal in Asia and the first of Brunei, died on May 29. He was 69.

Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, 89, former archbishop of Seoul and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, passed away on April 27.

Bishop Andrew R. Marak was born on Feb. 5, 1950, in Chimagre in Shillong archdiocese. He was ordained priest on Feb. 10, 1982, in the diocese of Tura. He was appointed as coadjutor bishop of Tura on June 3, 2004, and was ordained on Oct. 3, 2004 and became the first Garo tribal bishop. Before becoming a prelate, Bishop Marak was vicar general of Tura diocese.

He is presently the chairman of women's commission in North Eastern Regional Bishops' Council of India.
