The Church in Asia lost two cardinals in less than two months this year.

Cardinal Cornelius Sim, a new cardinal in Asia and the first of Brunei, died on May 29. He was 69.

Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, 89, former archbishop of Seoul and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, passed away on April 27.

Bishop Cajetan Francis Osta was born on July 30, 1961, in the city of Kathara-Bokaro in diocese of Hazaribag. He completed high school at the Khrist Raja School (Bettiah) in 1980 and then entered the Minor Seminary of Muzaffarpur.

From 1981 to 1984, he attended courses in philosophy at the Papal Seminary in Pune. He completed his theological studies at St. Albert's College (Ranchi) in 1992 and was ordained priest on May 9, 1992.

After his ordination he held various administrative and pastoral positions. He was nominated bishop of Muzaffarpur by Pope Francis on July 11, 2014.
