The Church in Asia lost two cardinals in less than two months this year.

Cardinal Cornelius Sim, a new cardinal in Asia and the first of Brunei, died on May 29. He was 69.

Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, 89, former archbishop of Seoul and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, passed away on April 27.

Pope Francis on 6 Jun 2019, appointed Rev. Roberto Gaa as the Bishop of Novaliches.

Bishop Gaa, 57, will be the third bishop of the diocese.

Upon his appointment, the bishop has been serving as Rector of the Holy Apostle Seminary (HASS) in Makati City.

Born in Manila in 1962, Bishop Gaa was ordained priest for the Manila archdiocese in 2000.

The bishop also holds a licentiate in spirituality from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

As a priest for 19 years, he has served in a number of pastoral roles, including parish vicar, parish priest, and spiritual director and dean of studies at the HASS.

In 2008, he became rector of the HASS and member of the presbyteral council of the archdiocese.
