The Church in Asia lost two cardinals in less than two months this year.

Cardinal Cornelius Sim, a new cardinal in Asia and the first of Brunei, died on May 29. He was 69.

Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, 89, former archbishop of Seoul and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, passed away on April 27.

Bishop Aloysius Murwito, OFM, was born on Dec. 20, 1950, in Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Province, on Java Island, 405 kilometers east of Jakarta, He was ordained a Franciscan priest on July 7, 1982, and appointed bishop of Agats on April 30, 2002. His ordination as bishop took place on Sept. 15 that year. Bishop Murwito's episcopal motto is In Deo speravi, non timebo (In God I hope, I shall not fear).
