The Church in Asia lost two cardinals in less than two months this year.

Cardinal Cornelius Sim, a new cardinal in Asia and the first of Brunei, died on May 29. He was 69.

Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, 89, former archbishop of Seoul and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, passed away on April 27.

Bishop John Lu Peisen was born to a Catholic family on Aug. 7, 1966. He studied at Jinan Holy Spirit Seminary 1984-1989. He was ordained a priest on Dec. 17, 1989 and served as a parish priest at Taian area in Shandong until 1994. From then onwards, he worked at the Jinan Holy Spirit Seminary until his episcopal ordination on May 20, 2011. He is the secretary-general of the Shandong Provincial Catholic Patriotic Association and the Church Affairs Commission.
