The Church in Asia lost two cardinals in less than two months this year.

Cardinal Cornelius Sim, a new cardinal in Asia and the first of Brunei, died on May 29. He was 69.

Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, 89, former archbishop of Seoul and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, passed away on April 27.

On March 18, 2019, Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fidelis Bautista Layog as an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan.

Bishop Layog, 50, is a native of the province of Pangasinan. He was born on November 20, 1968.

He was ordained a priest on April 29, 1996.

Bishop Fidelis currently serves as a parish priest in Our Lady of Purification Parish in Binmaley, Pangasinan.

The episcopal ordination of Bishop Layog was on the May 8, 2019.

On 14 Jan 2020, Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fidelis Bautista Layog as the Apostolic Administrator of Alaminos.
