Bishop Fransiskus Kopong Kung was born on Aug. 3, 1950, in Lamika, East Nusa Tenggara. He was ordained priest for Larantuka diocese on June 29, 1982. He was appointed coadjutor bishop of the diocese on Oct. 2, 2001, and ordained a bishop on Jan. 10, 2002, with the episcopal motto: "I am the handmaid of the Lord" (Luke 1:38). He succeeded as bishop of Larantuka on June 16, 2004.
