Pope Francis appointed Father Emmanuel Kanon Rozario as bishop of the Diocese of Barishal on June 21, 2022. At the time of new appointment, Bishop Rozario was serving as the vicar-general of the diocese.
Bishop Rozario was born on Feb 8, 1963, in Pabna, in the Diocese of Rajshahi. He studied philosophy and theology at the Holy Spirit Major Seminary in Dhaka and was ordained a priest on Dec 28, 1993.
Bishop Rozario has obtained a licentiate in Biblical Theology from the Pontificia Universitas Urbaniana, Rome. He worked as formator in the Holy Spirit Major Seminary for 11 years, five year as dean of studies, and as vice rector and rector.
He has served as assistant parish priest in the Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Bonpara; as parish priest in Maria Virgo Potens Catholic Church, Borni; and at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Kolimnagar.
Since 2004, Bishop Rozario has been teaching Sacred Scriptures at the Holy Spirit Major Seminary.
