Bishop Barreto Anthony Alwyn Fernandes was born on Dec. 22, 1952, in Mapuca in Goa archdiocese. He was ordained priest on Oct. 13, 1979. He was appointed bishop of Sindhudurg on July 5, 2005, and was ordained on Oct. 5, 2005. Before becoming a prelate, Bishop Fernandez was the dean in the Poona diocese. He is presently the chairman of youth commission in Western Regions Bishops’ Conference.
