The Church in Asia lost two cardinals in less than two months this year.

Cardinal Cornelius Sim, a new cardinal in Asia and the first of Brunei, died on May 29. He was 69.

Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, 89, former archbishop of Seoul and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, passed away on April 27.

Bishop Johan Fang Xingyao was born in a fervent catholic family in Hedong District, Linyi in June 1953. After completion of high school in 1975, he taught at a school for eight years. In March 1983, he entered the National Seminary in Beijing. He was ordained a priest at Jinan's Cathedral in 1989. He served in Linyi Diocese and was ordained a bishop in 1997.
