Bishop Ignatius D’souza was named bishop of Bareilly on July 11, 2014, and was consecrated and installed bishop on Oct. 4, 2014.

He was born August 4, 1964, at Basrikatte, diocese of Chikmagalur. He attended school in his native village, before moving to the minor seminary in Lucknow where he continued his studies in philosophy and theology at St. Joseph's Regional Seminary, Allahabad. He also has also at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, and holds a doctorate in biblical theology.

Bishop D'Souza was ordained a priest on April 7, 1991, in the cathedral of Lucknow. Pope Francis on July 11, 2014, following the resignation of then Bishop Anthony Fernandes appointed Father Ignatius D'Souza as the new bishop of Bareilly diocese.
