Bishop Joseph Dinh Duc Dao was born 2 March 1945 in Thuc Hoa, Nam Dinh province, northern Vietnam. He studied in St Francis Xavier Seminary Bui Chu diocese and in St Joseph Major Seminary in the former Saigon. From 1965 to 1971, he studied in Rome, at the Pontifical Urban University, where he was ordained on Mar 27, 1971.
He held many pastoral, academic and administrative positions. They include consultant for the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, president of the Xuan Loc Major Seminary and coordinator of the apostolate among Vietnamese in the Diaspora.
Bishop Dao was appointed auxiliary bishop of Xuan Loc diocese on Feb 28, 2013 and his episcopal ordination was on Apr 5, 2013. Following that, in June 2015, Pope Francis appointed the bishop to act as bishop of this diocese, until May 2016. He became the vicar of the Diocese of Xuan Loc when the pope approved the resignation of Dominican Bishop Nguyen Chu Trinh .
