Bishop Jose Chittooparambil, CMI, was born on Dec. 10, 1954, at Neeleeswaram in Ernakulam.

He joined the Sacred Heart Province of the CMI Congregation in 1971. He completed graduation in philosophy and theology from Dharmaram College, Bangalore.

Bishop Chittooparambil made his first religious profession on June 5, 1977, and opted to serve in Rajkot in northern India.

He was ordained a priest on May 8, 1985. Bishop Chittooparambil started his priestly ministry as an assistant parish priest at Immaculate Conception parish in Rajkot.

When St. Xavier's Province, Rajkot, was erected in 1994. Bishop Chittooparambil was elected as provincial councilor of social work. He was also appointed superior of the provincial house.

He was appointed the diocesan director of social work in 1994 and held that post for 14 years.

In 2008, he was elected provincial superior of CMI St Xavier's Province, Rajkot. While being the Provincial he was appointed the Bishop of Rajkot on July 16, 2010 and ordained Bishop on September 11, 2010.
