Archbishop Petrus Turang was born, on Feb. 23, 1947, in Manado, North Sulawesi province. He was ordained diocesan priest on Dec. 18, 1974, taking as his priestly motto a quotation from St. Irenaeus: Gloria Dei, Homo Vivens (The glory of God must be made real in human life). He was appointed Archbishop of Kupang on April 21, 1997. His episcopal ordination followed two months later on July 27, 1997. His episcopal motto is Pertransiit benefaciendo (He went about doing good, Acts 10:38).
