Archbishop Filipe Neri António Sebastião do Rosário Ferrão was born on Jan. 20, 1953, in Aldona in Goa & Daman archdiocese. He was ordained priest on Oct. 28, 1979. On Dec. 20, 1993 he was appointed the auxiliary bishop of Goa & Daman and simultaneously was appointed as the titular bishop of Vanariona. On April 10, 1994, he was ordained as the titular bishop of Vanariona. On Dec. 12, 2003, he was appointed archbishop of Goa & Daman and patriarch of East Indies. On March 21, 2004, he was installed as the archbishop of Goa & Daman. He is the presently the chairman of the laity commission in the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India.
