A couple running a Catholic website is encouraging the faithful to use digital communication media to proclaim the Good News by following the example of St. Paul the Apostle. “This world is strongly influenced by information coming via communication technology. The Church has to harness this medium and use this opportunity to proclaim Christ,” Stefanus and Ingrid Listiati Tay told around 200 Catholics at a seminar on Sunday in the hall of Mary Immaculate Church in Ngagel, Surabaya. “However, communication technology itself is not enough. We need to follow the example of St. Paul the Apostle, which is filled with God’s love,” added the couple, who run http://katolisitas.org/, a website dedicated to proclaiming the Good News. The couple, who completed a theology course at Ave Maria University’s Institute for Pastoral Theology in the United States in 2009, said that St. Paul the Apostle -- if he was living today – would have seized the opportunity to use communication media to proclaim Christ. They outlined several steps needed to digitally proclaim the Good News, namely establishing a strong spiritual and intellectual foundation and choosing the right methods. “By doing so, Catholics can access information about their faith wherever they are,” the couple maintained. The couple, who launched their website in 2008, warned of some of the challenges Catholics must face in using digital communication to preach. They include avoiding spreading confusion and being wary of antipathy against Christian values.

Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
