Capuchin Archbishop Hieronymus Herculanus Bumbun of Pontianak told Catholic university students yesterday to be more proactive when confronting the many problems facing the country. “Catholic students must be the light in the darkness of this world, which is full of temptations. Young Catholics must be more critical and take concrete steps to tackle various problems faced by people,” the prelate told members of the Union of Catholic University Students of the Republic of Indonesia attending a Holy Mass to open their 27th National Congress. The congress is being held in Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan province from Nov 22 until Nov. 27. Archbishop Bumbun told the students that they are part of an organization “which must take an active part in the materialization of Church social teachings and contribute more to the nation and the state.”
