A three-day bazaar that ended yesterday at St Louis senior high school in Surabaya, capital of East Java province, has provided its students with the chance to hone their manufacturing and business skills. Much of the goods on offer at the many booths were made by the students themselves. “The aim of our school is to develop talents and interests. Business is one of them,” said Fransiskus Asisi Subono, the school’s public relations officer. He said the Congregation of the Mission-run school is actively trying to give students as much practical experience as possible, rather than too much emphasis on theory, so as to give them a head start in the marketplace. As an example he said the school formed a student company as an extracurricular activity in 2002. “It has been training students in how to run a small company, learn management skills and how to make money on the stock market.” He said the student company jointly managed by the school and the Prestasi Junior Indonesia(PJI) now has about six million rupiah (about US$667) in capital. The PJI is part of the largest and fastest growing entrepreneurial, business and economic education organization in the world, which is Junior Achievement Worldwide. The organization operates in more than 123 countries bringing together the world of business and education. Other activities during the bazaar included several competitions such as a singing contest, traditional dancing, and a fashion show. Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
