Hundreds of students from seven middle and high schools run by the Society of Jesus have gathered in central Java for a four-day event aimed at bolstering youth solidarity in combating social problems. About 690 students are attending the meet, which began on October 17 and ends tomorrow, at St Peter Canisius Minor Seminary. The event includes sporting activities, a round of debates, photography projects and storytelling, arranged around the central theme of good spiritual and environmental stewardship. “We want to show solidarity in the province with the Society of Jesus in Indonesia regarding its efforts to deal with issues such as poverty, religious radicalism and environmental destruction. But doing so, we will have a common study frame,” said Father Yohanes Alis Windu Prasetya, an organizer of the event. Fr Prasetya, who is also spiritual director at Gonzaga College Senior High School in Jakarta, said the students all share a similar spirituality, namely Ignatian. “We are gathering here to learn how to relate with each other and to share experiences.” Related reports: Youth moderators deepen spirituality
