Thirty-one girls working as dancers and prostitutes were removed from bars in northern Mindanao, authorities announced Tuesday.

The girls, aged 12 to 17, were found during raids conducted by welfare and labor officials working in Cagayan de Oro City. The names of the establishments have not been provided, pending formal charges.

Bars and entertainment establishments found employing minors will immediately be closed, said Johnson Cañete, regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment.

Punishment for violations includes a jail term of 20 years and fine of from 100,000 pesos (US$2,325) to 1 million pesos.
