Peace advocates launched a caravan in the southern Philippines to support the negotiations between the government and Moro rebels, which resumed in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. But after the talks, the various peace groups said they were disappointed at the government’s failure to present a counter-proposal to the comprehensive compact submitted by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) during the meeting. "We urge the government peace panel to at least offer an explanation why there was no counter-proposal submitted," read a statement from 19 groups supporting the peace process. "Why come to the negotiations with nothing to offer to move the process forward?" the group added. Holy Spirit Sister Maria Arnold Noel, one of the signatories of the statement, said she was dismayed with the government panel because it "did not even offer any explanation" of its failure to present a position paper. The government and the MILF have been talking for almost 14 years already.
