An activist priest today led a rally in front of the supreme court in protest at an order issued yesterday allowing former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to travel abroad. Arroyo and her husband tried to fly out of the country last night but the government ordered immigration officials to stop them in defiance of the court order. Some 30 people joined a “Mass of Deliverance” presided over by Father Robert Reyes this morning outside the court. “Hypocrites and blind… You Pharisees and Scribes of the Supreme Court,” read one of the placards. Arroyo has said she needs to seek medical treatment for a bone disease and was not planning to flee or seek asylum abroad. Some critics, however, believe that Arroyo is running away from a non-bailable corruption case against her. “We are here to protest the questionable decision of the supreme court,” Fr Reyes said. “This is highly immoral, this is not a legal issue,” said Father Reyes. “The law has been [usurped] by angry indignation of people crying out to heaven telling God, ‘Please let your justice take over because our justices have sold out to the dogs',” he said.
