Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday called on Chinese Catholics to “be faithful” to the Church and to “the Successor of Peter,” and to be “consistent” in witnessing their faith in their daily lives.

Speaking after Sunday's Regina Coeli prayer in St. Peter’s Square in Rome, Benedict recalled that on May 24, pilgrims will flock to the Sheshan Marian sanctuary near Shanghai.

“We join in prayer with all Catholics who are in China, so that they may announce with humility and joy the Risen Christ, be faithful to his Church and the Successor of Peter and live their daily life in a manner consistent with the faith we profess.”

Recalling that Sunday was also the World Day of Social Communications, he invited the faithful to “pray so that communications, in all forms, always serves to establish a genuine dialogue with others, founded on mutual respect, listening and sharing.”
