A Philippine social development network of people's organizations, faith-based groups, and Misereor, the overseas development agency of the Catholic Church in Germany, has launched a campaign aimed to help Filipino voters choose their leaders in next month's elections.
"We may not know what the candidates will really do when they get elected, but this campaign presents evidence of what they have done in the past, what they are presently doing, and what they are promising to bring as their priorities," said Yoly Esguerra, national coordinator of the Philippine Misereor Partnership Inc.
The campaign, dubbed Power of Purple, introduces to voters the presidential candidates based on their stand on six national issues and concerns — climate change and disaster risk reduction efforts, environment, peace and human rights, mining issues, good governance and sustainable agriculture.
Esguerra said the campaign will be a hub for information on candidates "to promote a voting public that is well informed and equipped in making intelligent decisions."
