Parents go gaga for 12-12-12 babies
Rush of births on auspicious day
Indian cities saw a rush of expectant mothers seeking cesarean births in a bid to deliver their babies on 12-12-12, a day feted by astrologers and the wider public.
Amita Shah, gynecologist at Columbia Asia Hospital in New Delhi, said parents were “going crazy” about the date.
“Some were very specific about the time too,” she said after conducting seven C-sections on a busy day for the hospital.
In Indore in the central state of Madhya Pradesh, Chief Medical and Health Officer Ashok Dagaria said over 200 babies were born across the city yesterday with many requests for induced deliveries turned away.
Meanwhile, in the eastern city of Patna, gynecologist Sarika Roy said there was a similar rush as she carried out 23 deliveries with eight more mothers waiting in line for a cesarean.
She added that the sense of urgency among couples was greater yesterday versus November 11 last year, a day which was also heralded by astrologers.
“Children born on this date will be highly qualified and will achieve great things in life,” said New Delhi astrologer Jai Govind Shastri.
Yesterday was the last day on which all of the numbers of the date line up until January 1, 2101.
Paresh Kanoongo, whose wife had a baby yesterday in the southern city of Bangalore, said he was ecstatic.
“The baby has come as a blessing to us,” he said.
Supriya Bhardwaj, who had twins in Jalandhar in the north yesterday, claims that she managed to time it almost to the very last second; she gave birth to one of her two girls at 12 seconds past 12 o’clock.
