Sri Lanka is sending over 20 Pakistani nationals to their home country to complete lengthy prison sentences for drug-related offenses. Two of the prisoners are women. “This will allow them to continue their sentences in their country of origin close to family and friends, in accordance with a 2004 agreement on the transfer of offenders between Pakistan and Sri Lanka,” the Pakistan High Commission Press Attache Daud Ehtisham told today. Transfers are allowed in cases where sentences exceed a minimum of six months, the agreement states. Ehtisham said six were sent back at the weekend and the rest would be sent home in coming days.
