A women’s diocesan organization distributed gifts of essential supplies to a group of Christian widows during a pre-Christmas ceremony at the Bethania Church in Punjab province.
Alice Garrick, executive director of the Women’s Development and Service Society (WDSS) of the Diocese of Raiwind, who helped coordinate the event, said the group aimed to ease the burden of some of the most vulnerable people in the province.
“It is a mission which will help [people] in their battle against poverty unemployment and disease,” she said. Garrick and her team distributed food and warm clothing among women and children at a ceremony held at the church.
WDSS has also helped selected widows with monthly stipends to help them meet their growing financial needs with assistance from the Britain-based Christian aid agency Barnabas Fund.
