The first season of the Christian Idol program for gospel singers is being organized by churches and retreat centers around Pakistan.

"We are bringing the biggest program for you in the history of Pakistan. Who will become the Masihi (Christian) Idol in the race of thousands? Come and win the hearts of the judges with your melodious voice," an advertisement on the notice board of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sargodha, Punjab province said.

The advertisement also includes contact details of catechists who serve as coordinators for the program.

"More than 40 youngsters have registered for auditions so far and more are expected. For them, the recognition is more important than the prize money," Father Nasir William, assistant parish priest at the Sargodha church, told

"Church attendance has increased manifold since I shared the advertisement on social media last month. People are contacting me from surrounding cities and villages," he said.

Father William is among six priests and 25 pastors who are supporting the Pakistani version of the popular TV series in all seven dioceses of the Islamic country.
