News that communist rebels are looking to resume peace negotiations with the government has raised hopes that a final deal can be struck soon.

“We all want peace. All sectors should help the government and the [National Democratic Front] on how they can forge a lasting agreement," Ben Evardone, a congressman from Easter Samar, said yesterday.

National Democratic Front and government negotiators agreed to work towards a resumption of peace talks at a meeting in Oslo, Norway earlier this week.

A Protestant Church leader in Mindanao expressed hope that the stalled peace negotiations, when they resume, will finally address the "agenda of the people."

Bishop Felixberto Calang of the Philippine Independent Church said it is good that both sides are back on track again.
