Nuns protest for compensation

The Sisters of Charity of Tianjin diocese last week began soliciting public signatures for a petition to protest against a two-year delay in compensating a Church property. They hung a banner outside the new Charity Mansion to arouse public attention to their ‘rights’ for compensation. The banner “strongly demands the metro railroad company to fulfill its promise and not cheat the Church,” according to Church sources. Religious affairs officials have summoned the superior to meet them before the weekend, said the sources. The nuns staged a hunger strike in 2009 to protect the historic Charity Mansion from being demolished for city redevelopment. But it was torn down in July 2010.
