The number of missing fishermen in rain-battered Sarangani province in Mindanao has risen to 61, the provincial government announced today. "The increase comes after the Glan and Maasim [municipal disaster risk reduction and management office] conducted a house-to-house survey in every village to identify and physically account for each affected family,” the provincial government said in a statement. The military reported that 276 people were rescued from the sea, while at least 765 families have been seriously affected by a flash flood in the town of Glan. Glan mayor, Victor James Yap, said the floods took residents by surprise. He said it was the first time that flooding on this scale had hit the town.
