The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea (CBCK) held its biannual plenary assembly on Oct. 10-13 and decided to publish a new version of the Roman Missal in Korean after obtaining permission from the Vatican.

The CBCK will send the Korean version to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments within the month.

Once getting the nod from the Vatican, a new version will be published as early as next August.

Currently, the Catholic Church in Korea is using a 1996 translation of the Roman Missal second edition, issued in 1975. However, the Vatican released the third edition in 2002 and even issued a corrected version of it in 2008.

The bishops also established the Subcommittee for Pastoral Care of Pilgrimage under the Committee for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Foreign Residents Living in Korea to offer pastoral support to pilgrims visiting holy shrines.

In 2011, CBCK published a guide to 111 holy shrines in Korea, which prompted pilgrimages nationwide.

As of Sept. 23, a total of 1196 people have completed a pilgrimage to all 111 shrines. The subcommittee will develop various measures to help more people make their journey.

Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
