A Filipino workers’ organization said it will set up a group after being inspired by the recent canonization of Pedro Calungsod. In honor of the Philippines second saint after San Lorenzo Ruiz, workers’ group Migrante announced it would form ‘Overseas Filipino Workers Missionaries.’ The group aims to promote Catholic teachings and highlight the struggles of the country’s millions of migrants abroad. “St. Calungsod and San Lorenzo Ruiz will serve as our inspiration,” said John Leonard Monterona, Migrante’s Middle East regional coordinator. The organization claims to have about 100,000 members. Between 11 and 12 million Filipinos work overseas.
