Most Filipinos believe rebel peace is close
Most Filipinos harbor high hopes that a peace deal between the government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front will be signed within the term of President Benigno Aquino, according to a survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).
Some “64 percent of respondents were optimistic a peace pact will be reached,” Mahar Mangahas, SWS president, told a forum yesterday at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati City.
Respondents were also asked what year they expected the peace pact to be signed. “A total of 53 percent said they expected it to be signed within 2012 to 2016,” Mangahas said.
