The mother of a suspected terrorist leader killed in an air strike Thursday asked Philippine and Malaysian authorities Friday to bring her long-lost son's body to Malaysia for burial. There is just one problem: The military has not recovered a single body from the site and relied only on “intelligence” for the confirmation of 15 alleged terrorists they killed. Aminah Abdul Aziz, 64, who lives in Kampung Jeram Masjid in Bakri, said she was shocked to learn of the death of son Zulkifli Bin Hir, also known as Marwan, alleged leader of the international terrorist group Jamaah Islamiyah, who had a US$5 million bounty on his head from the US government. Aminah said she had not seen her son since he left home 12 years ago. "If it is true that he has died, please bring his body home to Muar," she said, according to a report in Malaysia's The Star http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/2/3/nation/20120203071217&sec=nation. “He was an engineer with a telecommunications company in Kuala Lumpur. But one day, he came home with his wife and three children. He told me he wanted to send his family to Kluang. Soon after that, he disappeared,” she added. Major General Noel Coballes, head of the Armed Forces’ Western Mindanao Command, confirmed the death of 15 Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah members, including Marwan, Mohammad Ali (Mauwiyah) and Gumbahali Abu Jumdali (Dr Abu), during an air strike in Sulu yesterday morning. He said soldiers on the ground have not recovered a single body because the militants took the dead with them, but the police found some “body parts” in the area. He said terrorists may retaliate. “We are prepared for that. Actually we have alerted all our troops even before the execution of the plan.” Aminah, who lives with an Indonesian maid, said she had prayed every day for Marwan’s return, hoping that her son would leave the Jemaah Islamiyah. She said she learned from relatives and some police personnel that her son had joined the JI some years back and was living in the Philippines. The Federal Bureau of Investigation describes Marwan, reportedly a member of the JI Central Command, as among the most wanted terrorists in the world.
