SRI LANKA: Priests from Belgium, Burundi, China, India, Japan, Kenya, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the United States attended the Jan. 14 memorial Mass for the ’singer priest’ Father Clever Perera at St. Mary’s Church in Colombo. The main celebrant at the Mass was Bishop John Tong Hon of Hong Kong. “Father Clever was a man of exceptional talents. He made use of these talents to add meaning and value to the lives of humanity,” said American Father Gerry Masters. Father Perera died on Oct. 14, 2010 from health complications. He worked as a spiritual director at the Sri Lankan national seminary for 17 years where he taught Latin and western music to major seminarians. The late Sri Lanka priest also recorded several music CDs. SR12909.1637
