The process of sending home an initial batch of Maoist former soldiers from their camps in various parts of the country was completed on 11 February. As per the peace process agreement, around 40 percent of a total of 17,170 combatants received the first instalment of a payout agreed as a voluntary retirement process at the end of the civil war. The remainder of the Maoists are supposed to join the official army but there is disagreement between the various factions as to their official status within the army.
