Finland and the International Labor Organization (ILO) on Monday agreed to increase aid to indigenous peoples in Lake Sebu in South Cotabato.

The agreement aims to sustain ongoing initiatives, mainly with the T’boli and Ubo tribes, and to respond to their future needs.

The ILO’s partnership with Finland started in 2000 and covers several areas of the Philippines. Through the partnership, indigenous people have received assistance in housing, farming, and in education.

“Our people are not merely treated as beneficiaries. They are involved in planning and identifying their needs, even in implementing projects, which have helped us develop our community,” said Datu Ponciano Bandalan, a local tribal leader.
