Apostolic Nuncio to Australia Archbishop Guiseppe Lazzaratto has warned against email "financial" scams falsely referring to Vatican authorities. "The Holy See continues to receives notices of financial scams perpetrated via Email and which falsely refer to Heads of Dicasteries and other Church Authorities," Archbishop Lazzaratto said in a statement issued by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference. "Such scams solicit financial support in favour of exceptional situations or fictitious projects. They also ask for monetary transfers that involve money laundering resulting from illicit dealings," the statement continued. In case of any doubt regarding the legitimacy of requests made with reference Cardinals, Bishops or other officials of the Roman Curia, it is advisable to contact the Apostolic Nunciature for further enquiry and clarification," the note concluded.
