Govt recognizes third gender people
The Home Ministry has announced that national identity cards will now feature “others” along with “male” or “female.”
“We plan to celebrate when we see these new cards being issued over the next few weeks. This will help us to apply for jobs and do many other things much more easily and freely,” Durga Shrestha of the Blue Diamond Society, Nepal’s leading transgender organization, said yesterday.
Many GLBT people complain of discrimination when applying for work, college placement or anything else that requires them to provide official identification as their appearance does not match with the gender indicated on their identity cards.
