Filipino is first head of new Lasallian province

PHILIPPINES: The De La Salle Brothers announced that a Filipino, Brother Edmundo Fernandez, has been named first Provincial of a new province in Asia. Brother Alvaro Rodriguez Echeverria, superior general of the congregation named Brother Fernandez head of the Lasallian East Asia District that will be inaugurated on May 15. The district will cover Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Singapore. Brother Fernandez is currently Provincial in the Philippines that includes the subdistrict of Myanmar. He has been a Brother for 21 years and his major responsibilities have been mainly in teaching in high school. De La Salle Philippines has a network of 17 schools. Under the leadership of Brother Fernandez, the district has been dedicated to making education accessible to the poor. PR12782.1636
