Pathein Diocese in the lower part of Myanmar has been helping Catholic children to improve their spirituality and how to say the rosary by reflecting on the Bible. Some 120 children aged 5 to 14 have been taking part in the program from March 21-25 organized by the Commission for Bible Apostolate and Legion of Mary in the compound of St.Peter’s Cathedral, Pathein. Six children from each parish in Pathein Diocese were invited. “It is the summer holidays now so we organized this program,” said one of the organizers, Msgr. Maurice Nyunt Wai, in charge of Biblical Apostolate. “We aim for the children to have the ability to say their own personal prayers, more devotion to Mother Mary and to be interested in the Bible.” During the five-day program, the children learned about the Bible, the work of Legion of Mary, songs of Mother Mary and, in the masses, how to pray and recite the rosary. The organizers have used a method of interesting stories and songs to draw the children’s attention as they can’t understand the talks easily like an adult, according to Sr. Sylvia from Sisters of St.Francis Xavier congregation, member of Biblical Apostolate Commission. “The children are very active and happy during the program. And all of the children are bright and full of obedience and all are trying to note down the instructions,” said Sr. Sylvia. MY13749.1646

Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
