A force for Christian unity in Korea met to discuss ways to bring the children of Christ together in a divided peninsula.
The Commission on Faith and Order of Korean Churches held its annual plenary on Dec. 12 at the office of the Orthodox Metropolis of Korea in Seoul, with officials attending from several different denominations.
The different churches established the commission to enhance ecumenical movement and to collaborate on effective evangelization.
Archbishop Hyginus Kim Hee-joong of Seoul, co-chairperson of the commission, said in his greeting, "our churches, with 2,000 years of history, have been shouting for renewal … we should be faithful to our common legacy."
In the plenary, the commission decided to hold a prayer service for ecumenical unity at a Lutheran church in Seoul on Jan. 24, 2017 and open the 3rd Christian Unity Academy to help Christians better understand different denominations. It will also hold a Christian unity forum in May 2017.
Meanwhile, the commission's theology commission will publish a joint translation of From Conflict to Communion, a new study, assessing how Lutherans and Catholics could jointly commemorate the Reformation's 500-year anniversary in 2017.
