A few graves at a Church of South India cemetery in Chamundeshwari Nagar in Mumbai were found vandalized by unidentified attackers on Feb. 6.

According to community leaders, the attackers also broke and uprooted several grave markers. They allegedly entered the cemetery by jumping over the locked gate and compound.

Upon being informed about the act of vandalism, the police visited the cemetery and launched a preliminary investigation.

A senior officer said a few empty liquor bottles were found near the damaged graves. "We have gathered some clues and will soon arrest the miscreants," a senior officer said.

Meanwhile, the community leaders strongly condemned the vandalism and demanded stern action against those responsible.

They also requested the police to intensify night patrolling in the area.

Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
